iOS 10.1 Jailbreak

On September 13th, Apple released iOS 10 to the public and quickly followed it with two more updates to patch bugs and fix issues that have plagued users. Now we are on iOS 10.0.2, people are starting to ask when we will see another jailbreak. The latest jailbreak we have is PPHelper for iOS 9.3.2 to iOS 9.3.3 but we may be waiting longer for a new one than we first hoped because of iOS 10.1.

Apple seeded the first beta of iOS 10.1 download [ext link] to developers a short while back and we know that the new update contains features aimed at the dual camera system on the new iPhone 7 Plus, released on 16th September. The contents of the update make it pretty certain that anyone who has the iPhone 7 Plus is going to want to update to iOS 10.1. We don’t think this is going to be released until later n in October and that means we most likely won’t see any jailbreak utility until after that time.

Apple never releases all of their new features at the same time and part of that could be because they are trying to force a jailbreak back or, if one does get released, to get people to update to the new firmware and lose the jailbreak. No matter what the reason, Taig, and Pangu, already working on a jailbreak for iOS 10, are now likely to hang back with an iOS 10.1 jailbreak until the new update is released. They will be looking into the new beta to see what effect it has on iOS 10 and the exploits that we know are in it.

iOS 10.1 Jailbreak Release :

We know that there are exploits in iOS 10 because Luca Todesco has proved it to us. Take a look at his Twitter account, under his handle of @qwertyoriopz to see a video of an iPad on iOS 10 and an iPhone 7 on iOS 10.0.1, both jailbroken. He won’t let us use his jailbreaks though and unless they have been patched up, if Taig or Pangu were to make use of the exploits he found, we can’t expect a quick jailbreak. It takes longer to produce a working jailbreak for millions of different devices than it does for just one or two.

We can’t be certain that Pangu or Taig won’t release an earlier utility but it makes perfect sense for them to wait until they can produce an iOS 10.1 jailbreak.
