If there’s one thing that many of us like to do, it’s jailbreak our iPhone , iPad or other iOS device. Why do we do it ? So that we can have our devices work the way we want them to and look the way we want them to. There are those who jailbreak at every opportunity, those who are a little worried about it and then there are those who are very outspoken in their cries that jailbreaking is illegal, because Apple says so.

The truth is, Apple doesn’t want you to tinker with your device. They don’t want you to get into the file system and install anything that might possibly be useful to you, especially where it changes what the iOS does. Apple is also very vocal in saying that they will forfeit the warranty of any device found to be jailbroken.

United States – Library of Congress :

Every three years, the Library of Congress meets to discuss what should be exempted from the DMCA and what shouldn’t be. Last year, the subject of jailbreaking was up for discussion and, to help argue the case on behalf of the jailbreakers, the EFF presented a very large petition, asking that we be allowed to run the software we choose on our own devices. In October 2015, the results of that meeting were published.

For jailbreakers and developers the world over the result was a resounding success. The Library of Congress has long argued with Apple and hold the position that people should be allowed to do what they want with devices that they own. To aid that, the Library of Congress has decided that, for the next three years, jailbreaking will be legal on both the iPhone and iPad, as well as, for the first time ever, smart tv’s, wearable devices with a cellular connection and Wi-Fi hotspots.

However, the likelihood is that they will still say warranties will be voided but there is a simple way around this – if you need to take your iOS device into an Apple store, simply delete jailbreak [ Read Remove Jailbreak ] and put your device back to “normal”. The store staff will not know any different and your warranty will remain intact.
